23 Dec How to Register a Divorce Decree at the Italian Consulate General
Below is a brief article on the procedure for registering a UK-issued divorce at the Italian Consulate.
Even during these challenging times, the Words at Hand team can assist you with the legalization and translation of the decree.
Documents Required:
- Application form downloadable from the Italian Consulate’s website.
- Copy of a valid ID document.
- Divorce decree fully translated into Italian.
- The translation must include the judge’s certification stating:
“I certify that this is a true copy of an original document filed with this Court.”
- The translation must include the judge’s certification stating:
- Article 39 certificate, available at this link, which must be completed, stamped, and signed by the Court.
- Confirmation of service or ACKNOWLEDGMENT OF SERVICE:
- If the Respondent has not received the divorce decree from the Petitioner, this document may be required. It must also be fully translated if necessary.
If minor children are involved in the divorce decree, you must attach:
- The original Agreement for Children and its translation, both bearing the court’s “True Copy” stamp.
For divorce decrees issued before 2001, you must also include the Decree Nisi Dissolution, along with its full translation.
Note:
Unlike other documents submitted to an overseas Consulate in the UK, the above documents do not require Apostille legalization. A stamp from the judge will suffice.
