The Process to Register Your Child’s Birth in 6 Steps
If your child was born abroad, as an Italian citizen, their birth certificate must be transcribed in Italy, specifically at the relevant Consulate.
Don’t worry, we’ll explain how to do it in this article!
How to Transcribe a UK Birth Certificate in Italy and What Documents Are Needed?
- Request a Full Birth Certificate:
Obtain a certified copy of the full birth certificate from the relevant authority (in the UK, the Civil Registry Office). - Legalize the Document with an Apostille:
Submit the certificate to the Legalization Office of the Foreign and Commonwealth Office for an apostille.Important: If the certificate was not issued in the UK, the apostille must be requested in the country of issuance. - Translate the Certificate into Italian:
A certified Italian translation is required to proceed with the transcription. It’s essential to rely on a professional translator to avoid errors that could delay the process (as recommended by the Consulate). The translation can be completed before legalization, as the apostille does not need to be translated. - Provide Copies of the Parents’ Identification Documents.
- Complete the Consulate Application Form:
Fill out the form with your personal information. - Send All Documents to the Italian Consulate:
Mail the documents to the Civil Registry Office at the Consulate General of Italy in London. For more details, visit the official website: Consulate General of Italy in London.
