17 Apr Citizenship by marriage: some good news!
For a change, we have some good news to share!
Following the recent negative news about Italian citizenship over the past month involving the generational limit being imposed. We’re excited to share some positive developments regarding Italian citizenship law, specifically concerning the language requirements for those applying through marriage.
The Italian government has recently relaxed these requirements in certain situations, which could make the process easier for some applicants. The Italian government relaxed the language requirements in these following cases to make it less discriminatory and to show the country is being more inclusive.
Here are the key points:
- Exemption for the over 65’s: Applicants over the age of 65 are now exempt from the B1 Italian language proficiency requirement. This is a significant change that will benefit many older applicants.
- Exemption for those with Learning Difficulties: Individuals with certified learning difficulties, such as dyslexia, are also exempt from the language requirement. This recognises the challenges these applicants may face in meeting the standard language proficiency criteria.
These changes represent a positive step towards a more inclusive and understanding approach to Italian citizenship applications. It’s important to note that the B1 language requirement still applies to most applicants applying for citizenship through marriage.
We understand that navigating the Italian citizenship process can be complex. If you have need any assistance with legalisation and translation, please feel free to reach out. We also organise courses in preparation for the B1 cittadinanza exam.
